Gun rights arguments are created for use in right-wing echo chambers, and tend to be obviously false or ridiculous.  Their primary uses are as prolefeed and [[shibboleths]].
  
 
Much of the heat and noise comes from attempting to claim that the Second Amendment creates individual rights.  The original purpose was instead to insure that states could have militias, most notably for defending against the British, the Indians and slave insurrections.  Libertarians (and the NRA) generally attempt to ignore the link to militia, or ridiculously claim anybody waving a gun is militia.
