Gun rights arguments are created for use in right-wing echo chambers, and tend to be obviously false or ridiculous.  Their primary uses are as prolefeed and [[shibboleths]].

Much of the heat and noise comes from attempting to claim that the Second Amendment creates individual rights.  The original purpose was instead to insure that states could have militias, most notably for defending against the British, the Indians and slave insurrections.  Libertarians (and the NRA) generally attempt to ignore the link to militia, or ridiculously claim anybody waving a gun is militia.

Using the Second Amendment to create individual rights can be viewed as legitimate if you think of a "living Constitution" whose meaning changes as later generations reinterpret it: but most libertarian are opposed to that sort of reinterpretation because it can justify many other government actions under the rubric of "promoting the health and general welfare".

You do not need the Second Amendment to create a Right To Keep And Bear Arms of whatever sort you want.  All you need is to enact a plain old law.

A SIMPLE SECOND AMENDMENT SOLUTION:<br>

Make everyone who owns or holds a gun automatically a member of the organized militia, which will be well-regulated by the state and federal governments. Well-regulated means not only trained, but also enlisted (documented) and subject to rules, including rules for storage and handling of guns outside of militia exercises. The rules can also have severe penalties for violations (such as evasion of enlistment/registration), including court martial. The rules can also declare some unfit for militia duty and thus unable to own or hold a gun.  The US government has a clear Constitutional power to do this.
